The Library System of the University of Pavia has activated subscriptions to several electronic resources (ebooks, ejournals and databases) through the signing of national consortium contracts or through subscriptions by individual libraries.

Consultation of electronic resources with restricted and open access is available through the LʘʘK UP service.

Currently the ebooks and ejournals (but not the databases) are also available in the Pavia Union Catalogue – OPAC and in the ACNP National Catalogue of Periodicals.

The databases offer many bibliographical or factual information, largely accessible only to University of Pavia’s users.

 

TYPES OF DATABASES

• Full text databases: generally single-disciplinary digital archive of documents available in full format. The information can be searched with a dedicated search engine.
• Bibliographic databases: digital archive of information (title, author, publisher, etc.) describing articles and texts. The information can be searched with a dedicated search engine.
• Portals: entrance page of an Internet site that makes information and services of the site itself available to the user or links to other sites, which refer to as many services.
• Dictionaries: List by language.
• Encyclopedia
• Pharmacopoeia: it contains directions for the identification of compound medicines
• Clinical Information Evidence Based Medicine
• Search engine

 

WHO CAN ACCESS THE ONLINE CONTENT?

Depending on the type of contract signed with the publisher, there are different access conditions which are specified for each title. In general, four types of access can be listed:

• Access at University level: all UNIPV users who connect from network stations of the University of Pavia or from remote stations via the Proxybib or Shibboleth/Institutional login services are enabled.
• Local access: only a limited number of stations are enabled. In this case, the structure where these stations are located is indicated in the description of the resource.
• Access with credentials: when a password is required to access confidential content, the description of the resource indicates the structure to contact to obtain this information.
• Free access: the resources are available online to everyone without the need for any subscription or payment

 

SERVICES FOR SEARCHING ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

LʘʘK UP (Discovery tool)

LʘʘK UP is the new Discovery tool and represents the access point to the bibliographic resources of the University of Pavia: e-books, e-journals, magazine articles, databases, images and videos.

In a second phase, LʘʘK UP will be integrated with the data contained in the Pavia Union Catalogue, which collects the holdings of the libraries of the University of Pavia and the participating local structures.

PAVIA UNION CATALOGUE (OPAC)

In this catalogue all the e-journals and e-books available through subscription from the University along with some freely accessed material are listed.
The records of e-journals include the URL, the conditions of access and the volumes available.
The e-journals can be searched for only by journal title and not by article title or article author.
